It is great to have VOLUNTEERS active within the Church body. They help keep the life of the Church flowing. But it can be hard to know where to draw the line as to what is considered to be voluntary work. Each Church will usually set out what is voluntary work (eg cleaning) and what isn’t (eg playing an instrument in the service), in their Policies and Procedures manual. Volunteers are much like employees, so an orientation before beginning in the position would help them understand the duties involved and where the boundaries lie. During this orientation, they could be given:-
- a position description
- identification badge – with first name and position
- copy of policies and procedures for volunteers – OH & S, privacy, discrimination, harassment procedures, fire drill, confidentiality etc
Make sure you THANK those volunteers! Put on a coffee morning jut for them or have a Christmas dinner together every year. Bless them as they bless the Church!
