Desire is used 111 times in the bible.
It starts off in Genesis [Gen 3:16 KJV] 16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire [shall be] to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. Our desire is to our husband, the man that we have married. The guy that we have prayed for and the guy we knew God had given him to us. Just like the Church is to desire the bridegroom, we are to desire our husband.
Then it goes onto warning about desiring earthly treasures and desiring what other people have, which is a bit selfish really.
Our desire needs to be God and the gifts His Spirit has for us.
[Isa 26:8 NLT] 8 LORD, we show our trust in you by obeying your laws; our heart’s desire is to glorify your name.
[1Co 12:31 NLT] 31 So you should earnestly desire the most helpful gifts. But now let me show you a way of life that is best of all.
[1Co 14:1 NLT] 1 Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives–especially the ability to prophesy.
[Phl 2:13 NLT] 13 For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
